Why
Marco Island, Naples And Collier County Are So Special . . .
Golf,
Art Galleries, Shopping, Gulf Sunsets...
Arts,
culture, shopping, beaches, golf — the best is waiting for
you on the Paradise Coast! Naples is "Paradise" in every
way. Just this year, the Travel Channel named it "America's
Best Beach." Lose yourself in miles of glimmering white-sand
beach and great activities in the crystal-clear water. Rent a Wave
Runner or spread out a fluffy towel. Take day
trips to Marco Island, Bonita Springs and the Everglades while
you're here and discover the true magic of the coast.
Of course, Naples IS shopping.
The bustling hub of sophisticated Fabulous Fifth Avenue and surrounding
areas will keep you busy for days. Step back into Old Naples on
Third Street South, where you'll find everything from high-end boutiques
to trendy salons set amid historic buildings. Or, try The Village
on Venetian Bay, an eclectic mix of specialty shops nestled in a
Mediterranean-style complex.
Take a break on a gorgeous golf
course. Naples is considered by some the golf capital of the
world, and no wonder, with amazing courses designed by world-famous
architects and the sunny year-round climate. Architects of this
region's golf masterpieces include Norman, Dye, Nicklaus and Jones,
to name a few.
Speaking of masterpieces, this coast has a thriving arts scene.
Well over 100 galleries house everything from impressionists to
cubists, and the Naples Museum of Art has 15 awe-inspiring galleries
with permanent and traveling exhibits. Visit the Von Liebig Art
Center with a focus on Florida art and learn a few techniques of
your own. For a Broadway-caliber performance, see The Naples Players
in action. The heart of the creative community here is The Philharmonic
Center for the Arts (locals call it "the Phil") —
a one-of-a-kind establishment that features both performing and
visual arts in a single complex.
Activities & Tours in Naples …
Charter
a fishing boat, tour the Naples Botanical Garden or rent a Wave
Runner. Don't forget the kids if you have them: cruise the Everglades
and have a roaring good time at the zoo. Some of the best to make
the most of your stay:
Cast
a Hook, Line and Sinker … Many
visitors flock to Marco Island to experience some of the best fishing
around. Whether you fish from docks, bridges and beaches or by boat,
you're bound to catch something. Anglers hook everything from freshwater
bass on the area's many inland lakes and ponds to wahoo and king
mackerel in the deep, blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico. You'll
also find everything in between such as monster tarpon, speckled
trout, snook and redfish.
Catch
a Thrill On or Above the Water ...
Ever wanted to know what it feels like to fly? Try parasailing!
This is probably the closest you'll ever get to soaring through
air on your own power. Over 300 feet above the water, look down
and across the Gulf to see large fish, dolphins and manatees playing
in the waves. Go up alone or in tandem and feel the rush as a boat
pulls you along and you sail through the air. Before you know it,
your time is up and it's the next thrill-seeker's turn...unless
you go again.
Have a Dog-Day Afternoon … A
dog's day isn't complete without a trip to the park! Take a trip
to "Rover Run" at the Veterans Community Park in Naples
just off Immokalee Road. Bring your tennis balls and Frisbees. Water
is provided. Barkingham Dog Park is also a great place for two-
and four-legged friends. It has a fenced off-lead open run, a separate
area for puppies, and hiking trails. For a day in the water with
your pooch, don't miss the dog beach!
Golf
'til You Drop … Named by Golf
Digest as the "golf capital of the world," it's said there
are more golf courses per capita here than anywhere else in the
world! The top architects chose Naples to create some of the most
distinct and dynamic courses in the world. With sunny, year-round
play and designers like Nicklaus, Norman, Dye and Jones, you'll
love teeing off on the local fairways. With over 100 locations to
choose from, Naples offers a variety of course options for the beginner
and the seasoned professional. A list of courses is provided below.
Meet the Local Wildlife …
Get acquainted with a manatee or greet the dolphins when they come
up to play near your boat. The bottlenose dolphin is the most common
type seen off the coast. They're about seven feet long when full
grown and their bodies are dark gray on top and fade to pinkish-white
on the bottom. They love to frolic in the shallows of Big Marco
Pass. The manatee averages around 10 feet long and can weigh close
to 1,000 pounds, but still manage to appear quite graceful underwater.
Arts
& Entertainment in Naples …
Explore
the rich cultural diversity of this region, from historical museums
to Broadway-caliber shows. Visit the beautiful von Liebig Art Center
or enjoy visual and performing arts at the Philharmonic.
Fifth-Avenue
Entertainment … Hobnob with the elite when you roll
into the Café & Bar Lurcat on Fifth Avenue. Sit back
in the comfy leather banquettes and sip a glass of wine —
they've got a global list of 200 to choose from. This chic expansive
lounge is enchanting and stylish and is just the place to mingle.
Cruise
the Local Arts Scene … Recently named as the top
small art market in the country, Naples has more than 135 art galleries
in several districts. Gallery Row (Broad Avenue South), Third Street
South, Fifth Avenue South and Bayfront Place are just a few places
to see artistic expression at work. You'll discover a variety of
artists and a variety of mediums, from oils to watercolors to sculpture
and glass. Bayfront hosts "Bay Walk at Bayfront" on Wednesdays
from mid-December through April.
Get
Your Hands Dirty! … If you've
ever had the urge to sculpt or paint, now's the time and this is
the place! The Art League of Marco Island will help you unleash
the artist inside. While you're in town, take a class: watercolors,
photography, stained glass, pottery. The League also offers children's
classes for the pint-sized Picasso.
Visit the Von Liebig Art Center …
For more than 50 years, the Naples Art Association has been a vibrant
and well-managed organization in the Southwest Florida community.
The association, formed in 1954 by three local artists, works to
promote and advance education, interest and participation in the
contemporary visual arts. Members of this early group taught art
to Collier County public school students until the school's art
program was established.
Nights on the Town … Ready
for a good time? Naples has a lot to offer, from swanky lounges
to laid-back decks featuring local talent. For the hottest dancing,
check out the Luna Ultra Lounge in the Registry Resort — the
place to see and be seen. For a rolicking good time, stop by Paddy
Murphy's for a pint and some authentic Irish entertainment. Catch
your favorite teams at one of the sports bars and play some pool
or a round of darts.
Dining & Entertainment in Naples
An
Authentic Italian Taste Tour … Fine Italian dining located
in the historic Naples Mercantile building, the award-winning Campiello
Ristorante & Bar offers Tuscan country cooking in an elegant
setting. The interior was inspired by the Villa San Michele in Fiesole,

Taste Tour," a series of month-long culinary tributes to various
regions of Italy. Il Fresco Café Roma is a lively, authentic
Italian ristorante with murals and frescos on the walls.
The
Finest Cuisine … Go Greek, German, Italian —
what seems like unlimited dining variations! Stroll along virtually
any street and you'll find an array of dining choices to suit every
palate. Take waterfront dining to the extreme aboard a sunset dinner
cruise to really see the sights and experience the flavors of the
area. Or, try a restaurant that specializes in the "Old Florida"
feel. From the freshest seafood to delectable desserts, outdoor
cafés to posh bistros — Naples is all about fine cuisine.
Sup on Sensational Seafood …
Try the fantastic Grouper "Sammich" fried, blackened,
bronzed or naked and served on a freshly baked roll. Big Hickory
Seafood Grille has been voted Bonita's Best Waterfront Seafood Restaurant
since 2001, this is an authentic taste of "Old Florida."
Located on a marina for the past 35 years, it's still the place
where you can buy bait and tackle, rent and refuel a boat and take
in the panoramic view.
Romantic Dinners on the Water …
Dine on the water — literally! On the Naples Princess,
a 93-foot luxury yacht, enjoy a double entrée dinner while
you cruise around the harbor and watch the sun set. If you'd rather
stay on land, but still take in the view, try The Dock at Crayton
Cove. Picture-perfect vistas overlooking Naples Bay and fresh seafood
prepared with a tropical flair are what this fun and casual restaurant
are all about. For a feel of "Old Florida," stop at Big
Hickory Seafood Grille in Bonita Springs.
Naples:
Shopping Heaven! …
Shopping

culture and even a few things funky.
Historic
Third Street South … In 1888, the Naples Municipal
Pier was built and just a few years later, Third Street South became
the city's center for shopping. Both appear on the National Register
of Historic Places and most of the original structures still stand

salons to bookstores and chic boutiques. This two-block-long, five-block-wide
span is both laid-back and upscale.
Go
Shopping in Sandals or Heels …
Shopping in the Naples area is both laid-back and upscale. Fifth

you cruise the palm tree-lined sidewalks and shop for high-end merchandise.
But head to The Village on Venetian Bay and The Promenade, both
bayside, and find trendy shops and art galleries set amidst a Mediterranean
backdrop. Browse the funky collection of shops in historic Tin City.
Shop the Naples Waterfront …

in the arts at a gallery … freshen your home décor
at one of the design stores. You won't find the run-of-the-mill
stores here.
Upscale
Fifth Avenue South … West Palm has Worth Avenue;
Naples has Fifth Avenue South. Browse art galleries along sculpted
sidewalks or people-watch from a sidewalk café. Tour jewelry
stores, upscale boutiques, historic hotels and, best of all, the
street dead ends at the beach so you can cool off in the water after
a day of hot shopping. This is the place that will make you feel
like a movie star, and who knows, you might just spot one here.
